Romanian food recipes – cabbage fortified with meat
Cabbage with pork is a cheap and fast Romanian recipe. It cooks in about an hour and a half. In a large bowl, place 2 tablespoons of oil with 1 tablespoon of lard. Fry one kilogram of pork in hot oil until browned. First it must be seasoned with salt and pepper. At the end, remove them on a plate, put the onions in a saucepan and grate until soft.
Later you will add a pound and a half of cabbage through a grater. Put on four slices, and after each amount added, mix until the cabbage is reduced. Then cook for about 15 minutes, until completely reduced and season with salt and pepper to taste. Then add 300ml of broth and 100ml of chicken broth. You can replace it with 100 ml of water. For aroma, add 2-3 bay leaves and a sprig of thyme. You will add the meat on top of the cabbage and it will boil. Finally, put the pot in the oven at 180 degrees for an hour and a quarter. The pot can be taken out of the oven when the meat is done.
How to prepare marinated meatballs
Marinated meatballs are another Romanian dish that is easy to prepare and delicious. First you will cook the meatballs and then take care of the tomato sauce. In a bowl, mix 1/2 kilogram of minced pork or chicken mixture, a handful of chopped parsley, 2 crushed garlic cloves, a well-beaten egg, a slice of bread soaked in milk, salt and pepper to taste. Be sure to peel, squeeze, and crush the bread before adding it. The composition will mix well, and then meatballs will be formed with hands soaked in water. Put in a frying pan with hot oil and fry on both sides until golden brown. When they are ready, they will be taken out on an absorbent napkin.
To prepare the sauce, put 30 grams of butter in a saucepan with 1 tablespoon of oil. When hot, add chopped onion and crushed garlic clove. Cook the vegetables until the onions soften. Then add two tablespoons of flour and mix. Pour 250 milliliters of broth and 120 milliliters of chicken soup over the mixture while mixing everything with a paddle attachment. Boil over low heat until the sauce becomes thick. If it becomes too thick, you can add more water or soup. Strain the sauce through a sieve, then season with salt, pepper, bay leaf and thyme to taste. Mix well and then add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vinegar. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. At the end, you will add the meatballs and let them boil for a few more minutes.
